More about Bayard:

Bayard was "given" to the Church of Saint Maelys when very young. His first mentor, Father Maugris, had intended to groom Bayard to be his eventual replacement, but Bayard proved to be too "rowdy and undisciplined."  So he was sent to the Order of the Shield and learned to fight against the evils of the world.  Young, idealistic, endlessly optimistic, Bayard just wants to help.  Everyone.
